Islip Public Library Terrace

Project Details & Design Approach

As information increasingly becomes more digitized, libraries across Long Island are transforming and reimagining themselves as community and event centers.

When Islip Public Library came to us, they had an unused outdoor space between the building and parking lot. Two rooms exited into this area—a meeting room and the children’s reading room.

Together, we re-envisioned this 1500 square-foot space as a flexible multi-fuctional garden terrace, equally capable of hosting poetry readings, jazz performances, meetings, wine and cheese parties, “movie on the lawn” events, as well as provide a tranquil meditative reading space for the library’s patrons.
